Tennis icon Maria Sharapova is parting ways with the stunning Manhattan Beach home she spent years designing to perfection. The modern, three-story residence—now listed for just under $25 million, according to The Wall Street Journal—has been her personal sanctuary since 2012.
Sharapova purchased the ocean-view property for $4.1 million and teamed up with KAA Design to create a serene, minimalist escape, which she showcased in Architectural Digest’s Open Door tour back in 2019.
The project took three years from concept to completion, with Sharapova deeply immersed in every stage of the process. Architect Grant Kirkpatrick praised her hands-on approach, noting, “She was involved in every single aspect of this house, down to the most minute detail.” Interior designer Courtney Applebaum, who helped bring Sharapova’s vision to life, echoed the sentiment. “There’s not a chair or table in that house that she didn’t personally analyze or discuss. Her attention to detail is unmatched.”
Upon entering the home, guests are greeted by a double-height foyer anchored by a graceful floating staircase. Inspired by Japanese architecture and minimalist principles, Sharapova embraced simplicity as a reflection of wellness. “I didn’t grow up surrounded by lots of things,” she shared. “For me, uncluttered means healthy. If you don’t use something, you don’t need it.” This minimalist philosophy extends throughout the house, from its bare concrete walls to its sleek, functional design.
Despite its simplicity, the property doesn’t lack for luxury. It features a two-lane bowling alley adjacent to a media room, while the swimming pool sits just beyond sliding glass doors off the great room—creating a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience.
Now, Sharapova and her fiancé, British businessman Alexander Gilkes, are preparing to spend more time in Europe, prompting the sale of their California home.
