Lindsey Vonn Announces New Coach as She Trains for Olympic Comeback with 5-Time World Champion
Lindsey Vonn has officially revealed her new coach as she prepares for an ambitious return to the Winter Olympics. The legendary skier, who came out of retirement last year, expressed her excitement about being back on the slopes and training again with Team USA.
After undergoing partial knee replacement surgery, Vonn announced in 2024 that she was ready to compete again. Her early races after returning were challenging, but she made a remarkable comeback by finishing second in the Super-G finals at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup in Idaho. That result reignited her dream of competing in the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Recently, the 40-year-old athlete resumed her training sessions in Chile and revealed that she has joined forces with Aksel Lund Svindal — a five-time World Champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist — who will now serve as her coach.
Sharing the news on Instagram, Vonn wrote:
“Back to Chile 🇨🇱 ⛷️ and this time I have my new coach @asvindal by my side 💪🏻🙌🏻 Making progress and enjoying the team 🇺🇸 … Chance 🐶 is loving it too!”
In another post, Vonn reflected on her mindset toward progress and improvement. She spoke about embracing patience and persistence, saying that not all progress is visible at first. Drawing inspiration from the Japanese concept of Kaizen — the idea of making small, consistent improvements — she encouraged her followers to keep moving forward, even when results aren’t immediately noticeable.
“Not all progress is visible. I try to get 1% better every day. It’s not always the big steps, but the hundreds of little steps you take every day that eventually add up. So even if you don’t notice improvement, keep trying to make the little steps. You’ll get there, trust me 💪🏻,” she wrote.
As she continues her journey toward the 2026 Winter Olympics, Lindsey Vonn remains focused on steady improvement and hopes to once again compete among the world’s best athletes on the grandest stage.
