“You Know, Some People Would Argue”: Rory McIlroy’s Response to Amanda’s Personal Question Sparks Reactions

Following his victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Rory McIlroy engaged in a post-round interview with CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis. The exchange garnered attention due to McIlroy’s candid responses.

When asked about the significance of winning at Pebble Beach, McIlroy remarked, “You know, some people would argue that the golf courses I’ve won on are not up to the level of a Pebble Beach or obviously an Augusta or whatever.” He added, “But yeah, to win at one of the cathedrals of golf is really, really cool.”

Balionis inquired about his approach to the final round, to which McIlroy responded, “I knew today was going to be tough. It was going to be exciting. There were so many guys around the lead.” He emphasized focusing on his game, stating, “I had to put that to the back of my mind and just go out there and try to shoot a score.”

Regarding the importance of an early-season win, McIlroy commented, “To get this win this early means a great deal, and hopefully, I can keep the momentum going into Torrey Pines in a couple of weeks.”
