Driver who allegedly hit Sam Kerr’s nan with his car causes a stir as he returns to court

Mark John Britt, 63, appeared at the Fremantle Magistrates Court to face a charge of dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm after allegedly hitting 89-year-old Coral Kerr with his car in December. The incident left Kerr, the grandmother of soccer star Sam Kerr, with severe injuries requiring surgery.

Court proceedings took a dramatic turn when Britt was asked to remain quiet upon entering. Represented by a Legal Aid lawyer, he expressed frustration over his appointed lawyer being overseas. He also requested high-profile Perth barrister John Hammond, but the magistrate noted Hammond was not listed on the case.

Britt, concerned about losing his home, sought more time to arrange legal representation. The magistrate granted a six-week adjournment, allowing him to obtain further legal advice before entering a plea. Britt is expected to return to court next month to continue the legal process.
