“Just a little bit more” – Jordan Spieth reveals the minor fixes he needs ahead of Masters

Jordan Spieth is fine-tuning his game as he prepares for the 2025 Masters. The three-time major champion is competing in the Valero Texas Open this week, using it as a final tune-up before heading to Augusta. After an impressive opening round of 5-under 67, Spieth is tied for fourth, demonstrating solid form and confidence heading into the season’s first major.

Following his round, Spieth acknowledged that while his game is in good shape, he still has minor tweaks to make. Speaking in a post-round press conference, he emphasized the need to sharpen his scoring clubs and wedge play. “I need to tighten up the scoring clubs, like some of my wedges, just a little bit more,” Spieth stated. He remains optimistic about his performance, focusing on refining small details before Augusta.

As a former Masters champion, Spieth enjoys a lifetime exemption to the tournament, having won his first green jacket in 2015. In addition to his Masters victory, he has claimed two other majors—the 2015 U.S. Open and the 2017 Open Championship. However, his 2024 Masters campaign was disappointing, as he missed the cut. This year, he aims to return to form and contend once again.

Spieth’s recent performances on the PGA Tour have been inconsistent. He finished T69 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am but improved to T4 at the WM Phoenix Open. A missed cut at the Genesis Invitational followed, but he rebounded with a T9 finish at the Cognizant Classic. Currently in contention at the Valero Texas Open, Spieth hopes to carry momentum into Augusta and compete for another green jacket.
