Australian football star Sam Kerr has expressed “sincere regret” after being cleared of a racially aggravated harassment charge. The Chelsea striker admitted using inappropriate language but denied any racial intent during an incident involving a police officer in 2023.
Kerr was found not guilty in February and has since met with Football Australia officials. After careful review, the board confirmed no disciplinary action will be taken. Football Australia only became aware of the case after media reports surfaced in March 2024.
In a joint statement, Kerr emphasized the importance of accountability, saying she is committed to learning from the experience. She reaffirmed her pride in representing the Matildas and the values the team upholds. Though still recovering from an ACL injury, Kerr has rejoined the national squad for rehabilitation. Chelsea has approved her involvement during the April international window, with hopes she may return in time for matches against Argentina in late May.
