Sam Kerr spotted in Melbourne as Chelsea coach makes ‘sad’ admission after FA Cup victory

Sam Kerr was spotted in Melbourne at the A-League Women grand final while Chelsea secured a 3-0 FA Cup victory over Manchester United. Despite her absence, coach Sonia Bompastor affirmed Kerr’s value, calling her return like a “new signing.”

Kerr, recovering from an ACL injury since January 2024, continues her rehabilitation in Australia with Football Australia’s support. Her presence at the match alongside the Matildas’ physiotherapist signals ongoing efforts for a full return.

Coach Bompastor acknowledged Kerr’s mental presence with the squad and emphasized her importance, stating that her availability could greatly impact future title runs due to her goal-scoring prowess.

Chelsea and Football Australia remain in close contact, coordinating Kerr’s recovery. The 31-year-old striker has netted 99 goals in 128 matches for Chelsea and recently featured in their 2025/26 kit photoshoot, highlighting her continued relevance to the club.
