Jordan Spieth faced a tricky situation on the par-5 11th hole at Muirfield Village during Friday’s second round of the Memorial Tournament. His tee shot landed near a creek, forcing him to assess a risky recovery option.
After removing his shoes and socks, Spieth stepped into the muddy bank but quickly realized the water was too deep for a stable stance. Opting for a smart drop instead of a heroic shot, he kept his chances alive for a good score.
From 268 yards out, Spieth’s third shot missed the green, landing near spectators. Fortunately, he had a clear path and pitched his ball to five feet, converting the putt for a remarkable par.
The save helped Spieth stay even on the day before finishing strong with four birdies over his final six holes. He signed for a 69 and sits tied for fifth, four strokes behind leaders Nick Taylor and Ben Griffin.
