Sam Kerr faces fresh setback as Chelsea striker undergoes second procedure for undisclosed injury, Matildas coach provides update.

Sam Kerr has undergone a second surgical intervention unrelated to her ACL injury from January 2024. While details remain scarce, Australia coach Joe Montemurro confirmed the procedure addressed a separate complication, and Kerr has now resumed light running.

The Chelsea striker hasn’t played since December 2023, when she starred in a Champions League match against BK Hacken. Hopes for a return during the 2024–25 season faded after setbacks, now linked to this undisclosed secondary issue.

During her absence, Kerr faced a public legal battle—where she was acquitted—and recently became a mother with partner Kristie Mewis. Despite challenges, she continues her recovery.

Chelsea showed faith by extending Kerr’s contract through 2026. However, with another season missed, her future remains uncertain as both club and country monitor her comeback progress closely.
