Charley Hull appeared visibly frustrated with Lexi Thompson during the opening round of the U.S. Women’s Open at Erin Hills. The English golfer showed signs of impatience over Thompson’s slow play, even sighing audibly mid-round.
Both were paired with world No. 1 Nelly Korda, but tension quickly built. Hull was caught on video reacting to Thompson’s lengthy pre-shot routine. She later walked ahead to the next hole, leaving her playing partners behind.

The round stretched to nearly five and a half hours. Hull and Korda shot even-par 72s, while Thompson finished one-over with a 73, placing her outside the top 50 after day one.
Hull has long criticized slow play, once suggesting severe penalties for repeat offenders. Ironically, Thompson shares similar views, acknowledging rounds should never exceed four and a half hours.
