Hatton had been in contention at Oakmont but slipped out of the lead with a 2-over final round. He finished four shots behind Spaun, tying for fourth place with Cameron Young and Carlos Ortiz at 3-over 283.

Spaun’s 1-under 279 finish edged out Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland. He earned $4.3 million from the $21.5 million purse, while Hatton took home $876,869 for his solid, yet bittersweet, performance.
