Insider Rejects Paige Spiranac’s Possible Role in LPGA Tour’s Growth: ‘Gonna Scream at Somebody’

Paige Spiranac has become one of golf’s most recognizable figures despite never holding an LPGA Tour card or playing professionally. With millions of followers online, her influence often surpasses that of active tour players. Yet, the idea of her being tied more closely to the LPGA’s future isn’t welcomed by everyone.

On The Mixed Bag podcast, hosts Meg Adkins and Matthew Galloway discussed the LPGA’s ongoing broadcast struggles and new commissioner Craig Kessler’s efforts to fix them. Adkins mentioned how third-party creators have offered to help tell the tour’s stories and even suggested a “content creator classic” to boost visibility. Galloway quickly pushed back, joking — but also clearly frustrated — that if Spiranac showed up in such a role, it would make him “want to scream.”

His objection wasn’t personal toward Spiranac, but rather what she represents: influence built on social media rather than competitive results. For many players grinding through tournaments, the thought of someone gaining access to the LPGA spotlight simply through online fame feels like it cheapens their hard work and credibility.

Kessler, however, has emphasized that improving the LPGA’s visibility is his top priority. He’s already partnered with Sports Media Advisors and has studied how leagues like the WNBA and NWSL market themselves. While Spiranac has long advocated for more attention on women’s golf and proved there’s an audience for fresh, entertaining content, critics argue her inclusion would distract from the very athletes the LPGA is trying to showcase.
