Former Serena Williams coach Rick Macci has expressed interest in working with Emma Raducanu, but only under specific conditions. Raducanu recently parted ways with coach Nick Cavaday after a year-long collaboration, following her third-round exit at the Australian Open. Cavaday cited health reasons for stepping away from coaching on the tour.
Raducanu is set to compete at the Abu Dhabi Open after receiving a main draw wildcard, initially slated for the qualifying rounds. She has been training in Dubai with childhood coach Roman Kelecic in what appears to be a temporary coaching arrangement. The British No. 2 is expected to seek a permanent coach soon.
Macci, known for mentoring numerous tennis stars, addressed speculation about coaching Raducanu in a post on X. He stated that he would be willing to guide her strategically and biomechanically but would not travel with her. Instead, he offered to help refine her serve and mindset remotely to aid her return to the top 10.
Raducanu’s Abu Dhabi Open debut will be against former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova, who also received a wildcard entry. The winner will face fourth seed Yulia Putintseva in the next round. With her search for a coach ongoing, a collaboration with Macci could be an intriguing prospect for her comeback.
