After controversy over $7,000 broken racket, Holger Rune issues strongly worded response to troll’s complaints about ‘detestable’ merch move

Holger Rune Responds Strongly to Criticism Over $7,000 Broken Racket Merchandise

Holger Rune recently launched his official merchandise store, featuring exclusive signed gear—including match-used and even broken rackets, some priced at over $7,000. Part of the profits will be directed toward charitable causes, the Danish star confirmed.

However, the move sparked backlash from a social media user who criticized Rune’s listing of broken rackets and a section showing used equipment sent to unnamed African locations. The troll labeled the campaign “detestable” and accused Rune of self-serving promotion.

Rune swiftly defended his actions, emphasizing his commitment to charity and youth development. He explained that he donates old gear to under-resourced clubs and supports children’s organizations. Rune asked critics to reflect on their own contributions before judging others.

The 22-year-old has faced multiple challenges this season, including early tournament exits and a recent food poisoning setback at the Mexican Open. Despite the controversies, Rune remains focused as he prepares for Wimbledon on June 30.
