Andy Murray is still class on grass! Tennis legend shows off extraordinary golf skills – and out-drives Ryder Cup hero – to wow fans at Alfred Dunhill Links Championship

Andy Murray, the former tennis world No.1, left fans amazed with his golf skills during the opening round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at Carnoustie. Despite admitting to feeling a bit nervous, the Scottish legend showed remarkable composure and talent alongside pro golfer Eddie Pepperell, finishing their team round seven under par. His performance even included moments where he outdrove Ryder Cup star Tyrrell Hatton, much to the delight of spectators.

One of Murray’s best moments came when he chipped over a bunker to within five feet and sank a long birdie putt on the final hole. The two-time Wimbledon champion said he struck one of the finest shots of his life that day, slicing the ball perfectly between two trees from the rough to land just a few feet from the hole. “That’s not a normal golf shot for me,” he laughed, noting that even the crowd seemed too stunned to react.

Caddied by Harry Robertson — brother of young Scottish tennis player Charlie Robertson — Murray credited his caddy for helping him navigate the challenging course. He also shared that he enjoyed the unique atmosphere of the tournament, where amateurs and professionals play side by side. “It’s so different from tennis,” Murray said. “You’re nervous in both, but on the court you’re confident in your game. Here, standing next to someone like Tyrrell Hatton, you just hope not to mess up.”

As Storm Amy approaches the UK, Murray says he’s ready to embrace the rough Scottish weather during the next rounds at Kingsbarns and St Andrews. “I’m used to this,” he joked. “For me, it’s a beautiful summer’s day in Scotland.” The tennis legend, who’s been pursuing his passion for golf since retiring, hopes to compete in more events like this one. “You never get this kind of experience in other sports,” he said. “It’s special — and I feel lucky to be part of it.”
