Andy Murray sends hilarious eight-word honest explanation as fluffed bunker shot goes viral

Former British No. 1 tennis star Andy Murray has been spending time on the golf course since retiring, but his latest outing shows he’s still learning the ropes of the game.

The Scottish legend took part in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, sparking speculation about a possible career shift from tennis to golf. However, one viral moment proved that even champions have off days.

In a clip shared by the DP World Tour, Murray was seen struggling with a bunker shot that barely moved the ball out of the sand. The caption humorously read, “One of us, Andy,” to which the 37-year-old replied with his own dose of honesty:

“I know I know I’m terrible at golf.”

Fans quickly jumped into the comments with supportive messages and laughter. One joked, “We’ve all been there — more than once,” while another added, “This is so me on a golf course.” Some even defended the attempt, calling it a “fine line” shot that looked worse than it was.

Despite the mishap, Murray has shown growing enthusiasm for golf. In a recent interview with The Times, he shared his ambition to keep improving:

“A couple of my friends who are very good golfers have played The Open. If I can get better, I think it would be fun to try.”

He also recalled his favorite recent experience:

“I played in the club championships at Beaverbrook a few months ago and I loved it. It was the most fun I’ve had playing golf.”

Murray went on to praise professional golfers for their generosity and patience.

“I’ve been amazed at how willing the pros are to help. Spending hours with someone still learning can’t be easy, but they’ve been brilliant.”

From tennis courts to golf greens, Andy Murray’s competitive spirit clearly isn’t fading — even if the sand traps still have the upper hand.
