Andy Murray’s daughter treats him ‘like a stranger’ with public relationship ‘tough’

Andy Murray has admitted that life off the tennis court comes with its own set of challenges, especially when it comes to parenting. The 38-year-old, who shares four children—Sophia, Edie, Teddie, and Lola—with his wife Kim, revealed that his eldest daughter doesn’t exactly see him as a sporting hero.

Speaking last year ahead of what became his final season on the professional tour, Murray shared with a laugh that Sophia, now nine, finds him “very embarrassing.” He explained:

“When I pick her up from school, she won’t walk beside me. I’m not even allowed to get out of the car when I drop her off. She acts like I’m a complete stranger in front of her friends.”

The three-time Grand Slam winner admitted the situation has been difficult, adding:

“She was only eight at the time, and already felt that way. I can only imagine what it’s going to be like when she’s a teenager.”

Murray retired from competitive tennis at Wimbledon last summer to spend more time with his family. Yet his competitive drive hasn’t gone away—he’s since been spotted regularly at his local golf club, working to improve his handicap.

Earlier this year, he briefly returned to the professional circuit in a new role as coach to Novak Djokovic. However, the partnership ended before the French Open began.
