Australia Matildas captain Sam Kerr is set to marry her long-time partner and fellow professional footballer Kristie Mewis in a New Year’s Eve wedding in Perth.

Mewis shared details of the upcoming ceremony during an episode of The Women’s Game podcast, hosted by her sister and former US teammate Sam Mewis. She revealed that the couple will exchange vows at a private home, surrounded by about 120 guests.

On Tuesday, Mewis also gave fans a glimpse of the celebration by posting on Instagram, appearing to preview her wedding outfit alongside the caption: Tomorrow
The 34-year-old US midfielder, who currently plays for West Ham in the Women’s Super League, said she and the Chelsea striker will write their own vows for the ceremony. Because the wedding falls on New Year’s Eve, the couple decided to start the event later in the evening so they could welcome the new year with family and friends.

During the podcast, Mewis answered listener questions about her relationship with Kerr, whom she has been engaged to for more than two years. When asked how she knew Kerr was “the one,” she turned the question to her partner. Kerr’s response was simple: she said she knew from the very first day they met. Mewis added that, looking back, both of them felt an instant and unique connection unlike anything they had experienced before.

Kerr and Mewis began dating in 2020 and publicly confirmed their relationship in 2021. They welcomed their son, Jagger Mewis-Kerr, earlier this year, following their engagement in late 2023.

Due to Kerr’s football commitments, the couple won’t be heading off on a traditional honeymoon immediately after the wedding. However, Mewis said they are considering attending the men’s World Cup together, even if it doesn’t quite feel like a typical honeymoon getaway.
