Charley Hull Proposes Bold Penalty Changes to Tackle LPGA’s Slow Play Woes

Charley Hull isn’t holding back. The English star is speaking out about slow play on the LPGA Tour, calling for major consequences—including the loss of tour cards for repeat offenders. She believes it’s time for serious action.

Her frustration hit a peak at the U.S. Women’s Open, where she stood waiting at the ninth tee as her playing partner, Lexi Thompson, took extra time on the green. “It’s exhausting,” Hull admitted. “We’re professionals. This shouldn’t be normal.”

Journalist Beth Ann Nichols echoed Hull’s concerns, pointing out that some front nines are taking over three hours. Fans are noticing too—many taking to social media to vent about the dragging pace and lost excitement.

The LPGA introduced new timing rules in March, but enforcement is still spotty—especially at majors. Until officials close these loopholes, Hull and many others believe slow play will continue to damage the sport’s flow and appeal.
