Coach says Kerr tracking well but not ready for Matildas return yet

Matildas star Sam Kerr is progressing steadily in her recovery from knee surgery but remains unavailable for upcoming international friendlies, coach Tom Sermanni confirmed. Her return depends on Chelsea’s approval and her full fitness.

Kerr, who last played for Australia in November 2023, has been absent for over a year. Sermanni emphasized any involvement in the Matildas squad hinges on Chelsea’s guidance, especially with pre-season preparations approaching for the London club.

There’s a possibility she may feature in Australia’s next international window, with fixtures lined up against Slovenia and Panama. However, Chelsea might prefer she continues rehab to ensure readiness for their pre-season.

Sermanni also shared updates on Kerr’s personal life, noting her happiness alongside partner Kristie Mewis after welcoming their child. He added that Joe Montemurro would be a strong candidate to lead the Matildas permanently after Lyon’s season ends.
