Emma Raducanu has hired former Rafael Nadal coach Francisco Roig to join her team ahead of the US Open. Roig linked up with the British star this week, providing strategic support during the Cincinnati Open.
This move adds to Raducanu’s long list of past coaches. She previously explained that her demanding approach and probing questions often overwhelmed mentors, contributing to the frequent coaching changes throughout her young career.
In a 2023 BBC Radio 4 interview, Raducanu admitted: “I ask my coaches a lot of questions… they haven’t been able to keep up.” She emphasized the need to understand instructions fully before executing them on court.
The 22-year-old exited the Canadian Open in straight sets but now shifts focus to Cincinnati. With Roig by her side and Mark Petchey stepping back due to media duties, Raducanu aims to regain momentum and earn a seeded spot for the US Open.
