Emma Raducanu in talks with Mark Petchey as British No 2 sets sights on full-time coach

Emma Raducanu is in advanced discussions with Mark Petchey for a full-time coaching role. Petchey, who worked with Raducanu during the pandemic in 2020, briefly rejoined her team at the 2025 Miami Open where she reached the quarter-finals.

Petchey’s positive impact was evident as Raducanu scored notable wins over top-10 opponents. His relaxed yet focused coaching style is credited with helping Raducanu find balance and confidence both on and off the court.

Raducanu has cycled through several coaches since winning the 2021 US Open, citing the pressure of expectations. Her most recent coach, Vladimir Platenik, left after just one match due to her reported stress levels.

With a direct entry into the Madrid Open, Raducanu is focusing on preparation rather than match play. Her current training block aims to strengthen her consistency as she looks to build a stable team for the 2025 season.
