Exclusive: Chelsea forward, Kerr ‘will not return’ before international break.

Chelsea striker Sam Kerr will remain sidelined until after April’s international break, according to manager Sonia Bompastor. The Australian star, out since January 2024 with an ACL injury, is not yet ready to rejoin the squad despite returning to individual training.

Bompastor emphasized a cautious approach, saying the club is evaluating Kerr’s progress week by week. Kerr was included in Chelsea’s Champions League squad but did not feature in their recent quarter-final first-leg loss to Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Australia’s interim coach, Tom Sermanni, had hoped Kerr might return for friendlies against South Korea in early April. However, her continued absence suggests that her comeback will take longer than initially anticipated.

Off the pitch, Kerr was recently found not guilty of racially aggravated harassment in a high-profile case. Chelsea have publicly stood by her throughout the process, reaffirming their support for the experienced forward, who debuted internationally at just 15.
