Lexi Thompson missed the cut at the 2025 U.S. Women’s Open after posting rounds of 73 and 74. Despite her early exit, the spotlight shifted to her pace of play, drawing attention across social media and golf circles.
Thompson was grouped with Nelly Korda and Charley Hull, two of the LPGA’s quickest players. A viral clip showing Hull waiting during Thompson’s putting sparked criticism, with many assuming she was responsible for the group’s slow pace.

In a statement on Instagram, Thompson clarified that her group waited on nearly every hole and was never warned for slow play. She urged fans not to make assumptions based on out-of-context footage.
While Hull and Korda continued their strong performances, Thompson remains focused on a reduced schedule. It’s uncertain when she’ll compete next, though the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship later in June is a possibility.
