Giorgi shares an update: “I wanted a new life because being a tennis player is demanding”

Camila Giorgi, who played professional tennis until last year, made a sudden decision to step away from the sport. The Italian star, once ranked 26th in the world in 2018, captured four WTA titles during her career, including a standout victory at the 2021 Canadian Open, where she shocked fans by defeating Karolina Pliskova in the final.

Now 33, Giorgi has relocated to Argentina and was recently seen working as an interviewer for the ATP tournament’s official media in Buenos Aires. In a conversation with *La Nación*, she reflected on her life changes and expressed no regrets about leaving Italy.

“I had visited Buenos Aires years ago and told my father that one day I wanted to live here. That dream has now become reality. About five months ago, I decided to make this move permanent,” Giorgi explained. “Argentinians are so open and welcoming compared to Italians. Tennis is very demanding, and for years I felt I wanted a different life. There were times I took months off, but I always returned to the sport. One morning, I simply woke up and thought, ‘Enough, I’m done.’ I told my dad, and he was thrilled. He has always supported me—he’s amazing.”

Giorgi also shared how much she enjoys her new environment. “I have many friends here, and there’s always something happening, often spontaneously, which I wasn’t used to. The week is busy and lively, and I love it. I’m genuinely happy,” she said.
