Andy Murray couldn’t resist a cheeky jab at Carlos Alcaraz when asked about their golf battles, insisting he’s the clear winner on the course. Speaking from Scotland, the former World No. 1 joked that he beats the Spanish star “by quite a distance,” though he admitted Alcaraz has been a little busy dominating tennis.
Alcaraz, fresh off claiming his eighth title of the year at the Japan Open, has enjoyed an incredible season that includes two Grand Slam victories and a nine-final winning streak. Despite ankle troubles earlier in the week, the 22-year-old powered past Taylor Fritz in the Tokyo final. For now, though, he’ll take some time off, having pulled out of the Shanghai Masters to recover before returning for the Paris Masters.
Murray, meanwhile, has embraced golf in his retirement and loves to needle his younger rival about their matches. “He’s got a lot of work to do on the golf course,” Murray told Sky Sports, though he did concede Alcaraz and his coach managed one win in their team contests. He previously described Alcaraz as “a very average golfer” but praised his dazzling tennis, even comparing his playing style to football legend Ronaldinho.
While Murray is enjoying life off the Tour, Alcaraz is balancing glory with recovery. His short break will keep him out of Asia’s biggest tournament, but fans can expect him back in Europe soon, aiming to extend his spectacular run and strengthen his hold on the World No. 1 ranking.
