He’s Never Apologised” – Jamie Murray’s Mother Opens up on Boris Becker’s Bitter Advice

Andy Murray is one of Britain’s most successful tennis players, with three Grand Slam titles to his name. However, it wasn’t an easy journey. Before finally breaking through at the 2012 US Open, he had already lost four Grand Slam finals, raising doubts about whether he could ever claim one.

Back in 2011, Boris Becker publicly weighed in on Murray’s struggles, questioning the constant presence of Andy’s mother, Judy Murray, during his matches. His remarks left a lasting impact on Judy, who recently spoke about it in an interview with the BBC.

Judy Murray on Becker’s Criticism

Judy revealed how deeply Becker’s comments hurt her, and how she eventually confronted him years later:

“I don’t think I’ll ever forgive Boris Becker for that. He’s never apologized, and I doubt he ever really understood how he made me feel. I called him out a couple of years later because I felt it was important for him to know the damage those words caused.”

She went on to explain how she first came across the remarks:

“I remember seeing it on the street outside where I live. I went straight home, and I didn’t go out for about three days. I really struggled with it. Becker is such a huge figure in tennis, and I thought, ‘People will believe him and assume it’s my fault.’”

Standing by Andy’s Side

Despite the criticism, Judy never stopped supporting her son. Andy eventually went on to win three Grand Slams with her by his side, and she remains a constant presence in his career.
