Holger Rune battled back from a set down to defeat Francisco Comesana 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the Italian Open. The intense second-round clash lasted nearly three hours under the lights at Foro Italico.
Comesana, ranked 63rd, started strong, dominating the first set with sharp clay-court play. Rune, seeded 10th and without a first-round match, initially struggled with rhythm and poor court conditions.
Momentum shifted in the second set as Rune reduced unforced errors and broke Comesana’s serve for a 4-1 lead. The Dane closed the set confidently, displaying renewed energy and composure.
In the decider, Rune fell behind 0-2 but fought back fiercely. He fended off break points and eventually clinched the win on his second match point, setting up a third-round meeting with France’s Corentin Moutet.
