Jordan Spieth encountered a tense moment during Round 2 of the 2025 Memorial Tournament when his tee shot on the par-5 11th hole landed near the water. With no solid footing, he opted for a drop.
The three-time major winner removed his shoes and rolled up his trousers, evaluating whether he could play from the steep slope. Realizing he couldn’t get stable footing in the creek, Spieth made a strategic decision to take relief.
“It was too deep to stand,” Spieth told the press. “If I dropped, I could still reach the green. Chipping out would’ve only gained 20 or 30 yards, so the drop made more sense.”
Despite the drama, Spieth managed to save par on the 11th and ended Round 2 at 3-under. Heading into the weekend, he’s tied for fifth, trailing leaders Ben Griffin and Nick Taylor at 7-under.
