‘I Know What It Takes to Be the Best’ – Serena Williams Details How She Turns on the GOAT Mode as an Entrepreneur

Serena Williams is widely regarded as the greatest female tennis player of all time, but her impact now extends far beyond the court. The 23-time Grand Slam champion has been steadily building a reputation as a powerhouse entrepreneur. Through her venture capital firm, Serena Ventures, she has already raised over $111 million to support new generations of entrepreneurs.

In a conversation on the Bloomberg Technology Podcast with Emily Chang, Serena opened up about how she carries the same mindset that made her a tennis legend into the world of business. Since launching Serena Ventures in 2014 with CFA Alison Rapaport, she has focused on investing with the same determination that once defined her career.

“It’s all about having the right attitude,” Serena explained. “You have to put in the hours, do your homework, and be thorough in everything. That’s the only way to be the best.”

She added that the same champion mentality that pushed her to dominate tennis fuels her in business: “I know what it takes to be the best in the world. I bring that to the table, and not many people can. At the end of the day, it’s about doing whatever it takes to win.”

Despite her success as an investor, Serena hasn’t left tennis behind. She’s still chasing the dream of equaling Margaret Court’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles. While injuries have kept her off the court recently, the 40-year-old remains determined to make a comeback, though she hasn’t yet confirmed when or where she will return.

Interestingly, Serena recently voiced her frustration after The New York Times published a piece on Serena Ventures but mistakenly used a photo of her sister Venus instead.

For now, Serena continues to balance her ambitions in business with her pursuit of one last major title, proving that whether in tennis or entrepreneurship, her GOAT mentality never switches off.
