“If things go wrong, you don’t have a billion dollars”: Serena Williams’ weight loss drugs promotion criticized by $12,000,000-worth Marvel actress

Jameela Jamil Criticizes Serena Williams Over Weight Loss Drug Promotion
Marvel actress Jameela Jamil, whose net worth is reported to be around $12 million, has spoken out against Serena Williams for promoting the use of GLP-1 weight loss medication. Her comments came shortly after the tennis legend revealed she had lost nearly 31 kg through intense workouts and limited support from the drug.

Williams defended her choice, noting that while the medication has been surrounded by controversy, it played a key role in helping her reach her weight loss goals.

Jamil, however, expressed deep concern on Instagram. She argued that while celebrities like Serena have access to top medical care, the general public does not. The actress highlighted the potential risks associated with GLP-1 drugs, including gastric paralysis, pancreatitis, cancer, hair loss, and long-term metabolic damage.

“Serena Williams is selling GLP-1’s. The issue is that if things go wrong, most people don’t have a billion dollars to fix it. That’s why I find it dangerous when celebrities push drugs with such serious side effects,” Jamil wrote.

She further clarified that her remarks were not aimed at criticizing Serena’s body but rather to raise awareness about the dangers of glamorizing such medications.

Adding another layer, Jamil pointed out that Serena’s husband, Alexis Ohanian, is an investor in Ro — a company linked to GLP-1 products. This, she suggested, makes Serena’s endorsement even more complicated. Fans, too, have joined in criticizing the tennis star for her promotion of the drug.

Meanwhile, away from the controversy, Serena Williams recently showed respect for her former rival Maria Sharapova during her induction into the Tennis Hall of Fame. Williams praised Sharapova’s relentless drive to improve, noting how their rivalry eventually blossomed into mutual admiration and friendship.
