Andy Murray has confessed that splurging on a red Ferrari after passing his driving test in 2010 turned out to be one of his biggest regrets. The tennis star said he couldn’t stand the constant attention the flashy car attracted.

Although worth millions and easily able to afford luxury cars, Murray quickly realized the Ferrari wasn’t his style. The steep insurance cost of nearly £100,000 also made the purchase feel like a financial mistake.

The British player admitted he prefers modest cars like the Volkswagen Polo he originally learned to drive in. Even after briefly owning an Aston Martin, he eventually went back to his simpler choice, despite winning a BMW i8 in Munich.

Now preparing to face Novak Djokovic in the French Open final, Murray joked that while he has a soft spot for Ferraris, he isn’t the flashy type. If he wins, he could make history as the first British man to claim the title since 1935.
