Inside Andy Murray’s Life After Tennis — and How His Kids Believe He’s Gone Pro in a New Sport

Since retiring from professional tennis, Sir Andy Murray has found a new passion that’s captured both his time and his family’s attention — golf. The former world No.1 and two-time Wimbledon champion has become so devoted to the game that his children are convinced he’s turned professional in his new sport.

Like many retired athletes, Murray has taken to the golf course as his latest competitive outlet. His dedication was on full display during the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship pro-am event, where he showcased his impressive skills. Speaking before the tournament, Murray admitted that golf has filled the competitive gap left by tennis. With a handicap of 2.4, the Scotsman confessed he spends hours perfecting his technique, often playing from morning until school pickup time for his kids.

“My kids think I’m a golfer,” Murray told The Times. “They ask why I play every day. I didn’t play for years because of my back surgery, but now I feel great and I just love it. It’s something to work on and improve, and I don’t find that boring.” His efforts paid off at the Dunhill event, where he finished tied for 18th alongside two-time DP World Tour winner Eddie Pepperell. One of his standout moments was a remarkable 70-foot putt on the 13th hole, drawing applause from fans at St Andrews.

Off the course, Murray enjoys family life with his wife, Kim, and their five children. But true to his competitive nature, he’s already setting ambitious golf goals — including one day qualifying for The Open. “A few of my friends have done it,” he said. “If I can get good enough, I’d love to try.

I played in the club championships at Beaverbrook recently, and it was the most fun I’ve had playing golf.” It seems that retirement hasn’t tamed Murray’s drive — only redirected it, much to the delight (and amazement) of his family.
