“It’s a Real Honour”:Jamie Murray Named New Tournament Director at Queen’s Club Championships Shortly After Marriage Split

Jamie Murray has been appointed Tournament Director for next year’s Queen’s Club Championships. The 37-year-old, a seven-time Grand Slam doubles champion, said the role allows him to explore his growing passion for the business side of tennis. While he won’t compete in the 2024 edition, Murray stressed he isn’t retiring from the sport just yet.

The British star takes over from Brazilian Luiz Procopio Carvalho, who had led the event since 2021. Murray already has experience behind the scenes, having organized the Murray Trophy and the Battle of the Brits. He says his focus will be on making the cinch Championships an enjoyable experience for both players and fans.

“It’s a huge honour to be trusted with this role by the LTA,” Murray said. “I’ve always had a real interest in the events side of tennis, from my early work on the Murray Trophy to running the Battle of the Brits. My goal is to give everyone involved the best possible experience.”

The 2024 Queen’s Club Championships run from June 17–23. Murray, who won the doubles title at Queen’s with Bruno Soares in 2017, will be watching from the sidelines this time.

His appointment continues a trend of former British players moving into tournament director roles, following the example of Laura Robson. Chris Pollard, the LTA’s Director of Digital and Events, praised Murray’s “passion and knowledge,” noting his two decades on the ATP Tour would help maintain the Championships’ reputation as one of the world’s premier events.

Murray’s off-court venture comes amid a transitional time in his personal life, but he insists his competitive days on the court are far from over.
