Jamie Murray sends Emma Raducanu a blunt message about Jack Draper after Wimbledon

Jamie Murray believes Emma Raducanu still has work to do to match Jack Draper’s consistency, despite reaching the third round at Wimbledon. Draper, though exiting earlier, remains Britain’s top-ranked male player and a proven contender.

Draper entered Wimbledon ranked No.4 in the world after major wins, including Indian Wells and a US Open semi-final. Although upset by Marin Cilic in round two, his standing in global tennis remains firmly intact.

Raducanu showed flashes of brilliance, notably defeating 2023 champion Marketa Vondrousova. Her competitive performance against Aryna Sabalenka also earned praise, though she’s now behind Katie Boulter and Sonay Kartal in British rankings.

Murray urged caution in comparing the two. He noted Raducanu’s favorable early draw but emphasized that Draper consistently delivers world-class results, placing him in a completely different bracket right now.

He acknowledged Raducanu’s US Open triumph but highlighted her current No.45 ranking as a gap too wide to ignore. “She needs to win a lot more matches to be seen as a true contender,” Murray said.

Reflecting on the broader British tennis landscape, Murray was critical of relying on wild cards. “Only seven players earned spots outright. For a well-funded system, that’s not good enough,” he added candidly.
