Jordan Spieth withdraws from PGA Tour event for first time as upper back injury ends Travelers Championship

Jordan Spieth withdrew from the Travelers Championship due to an upper back injury, marking his first-ever PGA Tour withdrawal in 297 starts. Despite a strong 2025 season with multiple top-10 finishes, the injury poses a setback to his Ryder Cup ambitions.

Spieth previously battled a wrist injury but underwent surgery that rejuvenated his form. Speaking to CBS Sports recently, he discussed regaining confidence and addressing bad habits. His resurgence had placed him in serious contention for the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

The neck issue flared up during warmups, worsening as he played. After a 5-over start through 12 holes, Spieth reluctantly withdrew. He described sudden stiffness in his right scapula that spread to his upper back and neck.

With The Open Championship approaching at Royal Portrush, Spieth remains hopeful for a quick recovery. While frustrated, he stays optimistic about returning to peak form and securing his spot on Keegan Bradley’s U.S. Ryder Cup roster later this year.
