Jordan Spieth’s PGA Tour absence explained as golf fans sweating ahead of The Open

Jordan Spieth has been notably absent from recent PGA Tour events, including the John Deere Classic, following a neck and upper back injury sustained during warm-up at the Travelers Championship. His withdrawal raised concern with The Open fast approaching.

Although injury played a role, Spieth’s absence is also due to a personal milestone—his wife, Annie, is expecting their third child this week. The golfer cited both recovery and family responsibilities as key reasons for stepping away temporarily from competition.

Spieth expressed disappointment over the timing, stating he felt confident before the injury occurred. He emphasized the awkward nature of the setback, as he had been building form and expected to perform strongly during the tournament stretch.

Despite skipping the Genesis Scottish Open and ongoing recovery, Spieth has not ruled out appearing at The Open. Fans remain hopeful that the 2017 Claret Jug winner will be fit to compete at Royal Portrush later this month.
