Justin Thomas gets honest about Oakmont after scouting through it: “It’s still tough”

Justin Thomas recently toured Oakmont Country Club, the venue for the 2025 U.S. Open. His verdict? The course remains as demanding as ever, with thick roughs confirming social media speculation about experimental grass strains.

Speaking to *The Golfing Gazette*, Thomas admitted Oakmont’s difficulty is no myth. He noted the 299-yard par-3 8th hole is particularly frustrating, calling it “not my favourite hole,” though he acknowledged everyone faces the same test.

Coming off a missed cut at the PGA Championship, Thomas is eager to bounce back. He emphasized that past struggles at Oakmont stemmed from poor execution rather than a lack of familiarity with the course.

To prepare early, Thomas visited Oakmont during a break in his schedule. He aims to fine-tune his game ahead of June and will next compete at the Memorial Tournament, teeing off with Patrick Cantlay.
