‘ Latest father of the year’:Still no Sam Kerr as Matildas name under-strength squad for Argentina friendlies |

Sam Kerr remains absent from the Matildas squad for their upcoming friendlies against Argentina, as she continues recovery from an ACL injury suffered in January 2024. Despite returning to light training at Chelsea, she’s not yet match-fit.

Interim coach Tom Sermanni says Kerr’s return will be assessed on a “camp-by-camp” basis, with her club expected to determine whether she gains minutes through the Matildas or waits for preseason. Kerr recently celebrated the birth of her first child.

The squad is missing several key players, including Mary Fowler, Ellie Carpenter, and Katrina Gorry. Injuries and personal leave have opened opportunities for younger and uncapped talents to join the team for international exposure.

New call-ups include Morgan Aquino and Kahli Johnson, alongside returning players like Amy Sayer and Jada Whyman. The friendlies follow two wins over South Korea, with Joe Montemurro expected to replace Sermanni as head coach after this series.
