Lindsey Vonn brings in new coach for Olympic comeback

Lindsey Vonn has added a familiar face to her comeback journey, teaming up with former Olympic champion Aksel Lund Svindal as part of her coaching staff.

The 40-year-old American ski legend, who boasts 82 World Cup victories and three Olympic medals—including one gold—retired in 2019. But in November, she announced her plans to return to competition, aiming to race at the Milano-Cortina Olympics next year.

Vonn showed she’s still competitive earlier this year, finishing runner-up in the super-G at the World Cup Finals in March.

Sharing the news on Instagram, she wrote: “Excited to finally announce that Olympic Champion Aksel Lund Svindal will be joining my team as a coach and equipment strategist for the upcoming season.”

Svindal, one of Norway’s greatest alpine skiers, captured Olympic gold in the super-G at the 2010 Vancouver Games and in downhill at Pyeongchang 2018. He also secured five world titles before stepping away from the sport in 2019
