Maria Sharapova turned heads while ringing in the New Year in Hawaii, showing off her fit and toned body in a tiny black bikini. The 29-year-old Russian tennis star, currently serving a suspension from the sport, was spotted relaxing on the beaches of Lanai, flaunting her abs and athletic figure.
Despite being sidelined from professional play, Sharapova looked every bit the superstar as she soaked up the sun and snapped selfies by the ocean. She also revealed a fresh haircut and highlights to her Instagram followers, posting photos with the caption, “Because why not?”
Sharapova has been making the most of her time away from the court, enjoying the outdoors and sharing glimpses of her island getaway. However, her holiday came to an end when she returned to New York City, telling fans, “Vacation’s over. Shooting new work,” alongside a photo at a salon.
The five-time Grand Slam champion was suspended in 2016 after testing positive for meldonium, a drug she said she had used for years on medical advice without knowing it was recently banned. Initially handed a two-year ban, the Court of Arbitration for Sport later reduced it to 15 months, making her eligible to compete again from April 2017, with a potential comeback at the French Open.
Until then, Sharapova appears focused on staying fit, enjoying life, and preparing for her highly anticipated return to tennis.
