Maria Sharapova’s Husband, Alexander Gilkes Pokes Fun at Her Pre Red-Carpet Excitement With Clever Wordplay

Tennis icon Maria Sharapova turned heads at the 2024 Met Gala in a yellow Prabal Gurung gown, inspired by the “Garden of Time” theme. Though she walked solo, her pre-event Instagram post drew a cheeky comment from fiancé Alexander Gilkes.

Sharapova playfully shared photos lounging in bed, joking about stilettos under the sheets and praising her luxurious Boll and Branch bedding. Gilkes responded humorously with the pun “Bedcarpet,” cleverly teasing the blend of glam and comfort before the glamorous night.

Her gown featured a lime-green jacket and floral hair details, perfectly blending elegance and theme. The unique ensemble also marked the first time a bedding brand collaborated on a Met Gala look, using rare Summit Supima cotton.

Praising Gurung’s vision, Sharapova called the gown a “fairytale” fit for the event. While she usually prefers neutral tones, she embraced bold colors this time, describing the experience as a magical opportunity to step outside her comfort zone.
