Matildas boss answers every fan’s biggest question about Sam Kerr as worries grow over her devastating knee injury

Matildas captain Sam Kerr remains sidelined with a long-term ACL injury, with no confirmed return date. Interim coach Tom Sermanni emphasized her status as a “camp by camp” consideration, as she continues rehabilitation and remains unavailable for upcoming friendlies.

Kerr last played in early 2024 before suffering the injury at a Chelsea training camp. Although she has participated in training camps in a non-playing role, she won’t feature in the matches against Argentina scheduled in Melbourne and Canberra.

Sermanni revealed that Chelsea may prefer Kerr to focus on pre-season recovery rather than rushing her return. Close coordination continues between the club, national team staff, and Kerr during her rehabilitation process in London.

Meanwhile, coaching changes are imminent as Joe Montemurro prepares to succeed Sermanni. Several players are also sidelined with injuries or personal leave, though promising talents like Isabel Gomez and Kahli Johnson have been called up to strengthen the squad.
