Matildas reveal unknown figure close to Sam Kerr who could hold key to long-awaited return

Sam Kerr’s return to the Matildas remains uncertain, with her recovery from an ACL injury still ongoing. Despite rejoining the squad recently, she did not feature in matches. A specialist physiotherapist continues to assist her rehabilitation in London.

Interim coach Tom Sermanni confirmed Kerr’s comeback is being assessed on a “camp by camp” basis. Although her progress is promising, she may sit out the next few months to focus on Chelsea’s pre-season preparations and avoid rushing her return.

Meanwhile, Lyon coach Joe Montemurro is expected to take over the Matildas. Sermanni believes Montemurro’s experience and deep knowledge of the players will help rejuvenate the team following recent disappointing campaigns.

Montemurro’s arrival could also play a key role in managing Kerr’s reintegration. As the Matildas seek renewed momentum ahead of future fixtures, players like Foord, Catley, and Cooney-Cross remain central to the squad’s evolving strength.
