Golf influencer Paige Spiranac has opened up about why she wears the eye-catching outfits that have helped make her a viral sensation.
With more than four million Instagram followers, Spiranac is known for her unconventional style on the course. But in a recent appearance on the Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams, she explained that her fashion choices were never about making a statement — they started out of necessity.
Before turning to golf, Spiranac was a competitive gymnast and had grown comfortable wearing leotards. When she first took up the sport, she couldn’t afford a traditional golf wardrobe, so she simply played in what she already owned: leggings and tank tops.
“I learned the game on public courses where there wasn’t a strict dress code,” she said. “That’s just what I had, and that’s what I wore.”
Spiranac also addressed the intimidation many newcomers feel about golf’s reputation for exclusivity and rigid dress codes. She encouraged people not to let that discourage them.
“Golf can feel stuffy, and people worry too much about what they’re wearing or whether they’ll upset someone at a country club,” she explained. “But if you go to a public course, you’ll see people in cut-off jeans or tank tops. You can still respect the game and its traditions without making your wardrobe the focus.”
Recently, Spiranac competed in the PGA Tour’s Creator Classic, which brought together 16 top golf content creators. She finished at two-over par through eight holes but did not advance to the final round.
