PGA Tour Analyst Points Out Big Shift in Jordan Spieth’s Game That No One is Talking About

Jordan Spieth may not currently be seen as one of golf’s top contenders, but insiders from the Golf Channel believe a resurgence could be just around the corner. Despite his recent struggles, including a string of sub-30 finishes, analysts are convinced Spieth’s best form may soon return.

On the 5 Clubs podcast, Brendan Porath stated, “I wouldn’t be surprised to see him win next year.” That confidence might seem optimistic given Spieth’s inconsistent results, but there’s more beneath the surface.

Overcoming a Painful Setback

Spieth’s career nearly derailed in May 2023 when he suffered a serious wrist injury—the extensor carpi ulnaris (ECU) tendon slipped out of its sheath, causing severe pain with every swing. Surgery in 2024 left fans unsure if he would ever regain his form.

However, Spieth defied expectations in 2025. After returning from surgery, he opened the year with an impressive T4 finish at the WM Phoenix Open, finishing 16-under. He followed that up with a T9 at the Cognizant Classic and a fourth-place finish at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. His ranking in the FedEx Cup climbed from 70th to 56th—a promising sign of recovery.

Analyst Johnson Wagner remarked, “Coming off that wrist injury, you don’t know what it’s going to be like, and I thought he had a really solid season.”

Signs of Real Progress

Spieth’s wrist now appears stronger than ever. At the Memorial Tournament, he placed T7 at 1-under, shooting six birdies and six bogeys in the third round. “It just felt like it was close to really good,” Spieth said afterward. “The game’s feeling better and better… It’s trending in the right direction.”

Wagner believes Spieth’s improved health could see him contend again at the highest level: “I do see him getting in contention in majors, and I see him winning again, hopefully soon.”

The Mental Game and Stability

Gary Williams also credits Spieth’s mental calm and family life as factors in his revival. “He’s incredibly comfortable with who he is, but still intensely competitive,” Williams said. He even predicted Spieth could win again in 2026, possibly at Augusta National — a course where Spieth historically performs well.

Stats That Tell the Story

While Spieth may not yet be back to his peak, the numbers show steady improvement. At the Memorial, he gained 3.912 shots on approach, 1.812 off the tee, and 2.380 around the green — some of his best figures in years.

Overall in 2025, his Strokes Gained metrics improved across the board:

Off the Tee: +0.190
Approach: +0.097
Around the Green: +0.209

In his five events before the Masters, these numbers jumped even higher — showing clear signs of progress. His average driving distance also surpassed 300 yards, an impressive feat following wrist surgery.

Masters Consistency and Comeback

Spieth’s track record at Augusta remains strong. Despite his injury, he finished T4 at the 2023 Masters (7-under) and improved again this year with a T14 finish. Only in 2024 did he miss the cut, largely due to recovery challenges.

Reflecting on his downtime, Spieth explained, “Having to take three months off swinging forces you to come back and be wet concrete… I just want to get back into a rhythm.”

What’s Next for Spieth

Analysts agree that Spieth’s game is trending up — though there’s room for refinement. “He’s still got plenty of power,” said Porath. “He just needs to tighten up the iron play a bit.”

Whether he fulfills these renewed expectations remains to be seen, but the signs suggest that Jordan Spieth’s long-awaited comeback might already be underway — and golf fans could soon be watching him lift a trophy again.
