Rory McIlroy close to leaving Jordan Spieth very red-faced as earnings now stand at £7m

Rory McIlroy is dominating the PGA Tour prize money rankings after a stellar start to 2025. His recent T5 finish at the Houston Open added £266,000 ($337,843) to his season’s total, pushing his earnings past £7 million ($9 million) in just three months.

McIlroy’s success comes after victories at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Players Championship, where he claimed a staggering £3.54 million ($4.5 million). His current earnings are set to surpass Jordan Spieth’s total prize money from the 2022/23 season, highlighting their contrasting trajectories.

Spieth, a three-time major champion, has struggled for form since his last PGA Tour win at the RBC Heritage in April 2022. His earnings have declined in recent seasons, totaling £2.15 million ($2.732 million) in 2024, with his best major performance being a T25 finish at The Open.

With McIlroy’s remarkable form and career earnings now reaching £77.2 million ($100 million), he remains second on the all-time PGA Tour money list, trailing only Tiger Woods. Meanwhile, Spieth, currently eighth with £49 million ($63.5 million), faces an uphill battle to reclaim his dominance.
