Rory McIlroy snubbed by potential Ryder Cup ally as Jordan Spieth called out

As the 2025 Masters approaches, Belgian golfer Thomas Detry has revealed his preferred practice partners, notably excluding Rory McIlroy. Instead, Detry named Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth, and Scottie Scheffler as his ideal companions for Augusta, citing their expertise and experience.

Detry, who secured his first PGA Tour victory at the WM Phoenix Open, will make his Masters debut this year. While McIlroy remains a top European player, Detry’s choices highlight his desire to learn from multiple Masters champions. He also noted his shared connection with Spieth and Scheffler as new fathers.

McIlroy, still chasing his first Masters title, may still get the opportunity to connect with Detry later this year. The Belgian is a strong contender for the European Ryder Cup team, where he could partner with McIlroy at Bethpage Black in New York.

Meanwhile, Woods, a five-time Masters champion, will miss the tournament due to an Achilles injury. McIlroy expressed disappointment, acknowledging Woods’ ongoing struggles with injuries and suggesting the golf legend may not return to competition until 2026.
