Sam Kerr couldn’t hide her joy after Chelsea honored her remarkable 100-goal milestone with a handcrafted soccer ball, designed to capture every strike she’s scored for the club.
The 31-year-old striker, who returned last weekend after 634 days out with an ACL injury, netted her landmark goal against Aston Villa. Chelsea manager Sonia Bompastor said Kerr had been “like a new person” since the achievement, smiling constantly and regaining her confidence.
The unique gift, created by Perth artist and Chelsea supporter Emily Hessell, included details of the minute, opponent, and date of each goal. Kerr described it as “amazing,” admitting she loves playing for the club and reminiscing about her favorite goals—an audacious lob against Arsenal in the 2021 FA Cup final and a stunning volley against Manchester United that clinched the WSL title.
Bompastor cautioned that Kerr is still regaining full fitness, stressing the need for patience. However, she praised Kerr’s hard work and energy in training, adding that fans come to the stadium just to see her. Kerr’s next expected appearance will be at Kingsmeadow against Leicester, as she continues her journey back to peak form.
