Sam Kerr opens up about motherhood for the first time – and reveals what she hopes baby son Jagger does when he grows up
Australian football star Sam Kerr has spoken openly about becoming a mother for the first time, admitting she’s still coming to terms with the life-changing experience.

The Matildas captain, who welcomed her first child with fiancée Kristie Mewis in May, recently gave a rare interview about her new role as a parent after returning to the pitch.

Speaking on the We Are Chelsea podcast, Kerr confessed the reality of motherhood still feels surreal.
“Sometimes Kristie and I just look at him and laugh, like, ‘Wait, he’s actually ours,’” Kerr said. “We used to go to all those scans, and now he’s with us forever. It still feels so wild.”

When asked what she enjoys most about being a mum, Kerr didn’t hesitate.
“Coming home to him,” she said. “He’s at that stage now where he gets so excited to see me. It’s the best feeling. Honestly, it’s like having a dog—only 100 times harder and 100 times better. You can’t just pop him in the backyard and say, ‘Go play for a bit.’”

Her Chelsea teammate Erin Cuthbert praised Kerr’s smooth transition into motherhood.
“She’s amazing,” Cuthbert said. “Before, she was like, ‘Babies? No thanks.’ But now she just knows exactly what to do.”

As for Jagger’s future, Kerr isn’t pushing him toward sports. Instead, she joked about hoping he pursues a high-paying career.
“I’d love for him to be a scientist or a surgeon—make heaps of money,” she laughed.

The sporting couple, who are expected to marry later this year, are balancing family life with their careers. Kerr made her long-awaited return to Chelsea last week after 20 months on the sidelines due to a ruptured ACL, marking the comeback in style with her 100th goal for the club.

“I’m a goal scorer—that’s what I love doing,” she said. “Reaching 100 goals is an incredible achievement and something I’ll always be proud of.”
